WITH THEIR NITTY GRITTY VICTORY OVER THE PESKY MONARCHS AT DOMINICO FIELD, THE CRAWFORDS PUNCH A TICKET INTO A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME SHOWDOWN VERSUS THE HOMESTEADS
Game Photos courtesy of Matt Byrnes and John ChristmannBeneath a layer of pristine September skies, the Crawfords defeated the Monarchs 16-12 in 5 ½ innings of Bantam Division Semi-Final action this evening at Dominico Field at Christie Pits.
The semi-final elimination victory propels the top seeded Crawfords into a Bantam Division Championship Final showdown against the second seeded Homesteads on Wednesday (September 13) evening.
Here is a brief recap of the proceedings:
- The Monarchs threatened in the top of the first when they loaded the bases. However, the Crawfords dodged a bullet when their starter pitched out of the mojo jojo jam to leave them stranded.
- In the bottom of the first, the Crawfords staked themselves to an early 3-0 lead. Iliana (3), Jordan (11) and Thomas (9) came home to roost.
- Not to be outdone, the Monarchs replied with four in the top half of the second to take a 4-3 lead. Simon (4), Zach (2), Adrian (11) and Emily (13) came home to do the E-Street Shuffle.
- The Crawfords answered with a pair in the bottom of the second to retake the lead 5-4. Leo (8) and Jasper (6) came homeward to do the Watusi.
- In the top portion of the third, the Monarchs battled back with three to regain the lead 7-5. Jack (5), Jon (15) and Simon came home to do the Jitterbug.
- However, the Crawfords stormed back with a foursome in the bottom of the third to take a 9-7 advantage. Jordan, Thomas, Angus (13) and Flynn (7) came homeward to do the shimmy, shimmy, shake.
- Like a prized fighter in a boxing ring, the Monarchs punched back with four in the top of the fourth to retake the lead 11-9. Emily, Chryz (12), Leandro (10) and Alden (7) came home to the Hully Gully.
- The Crawfords replied with three in the bottom of the fourth to take a 12-11 lead. Griff (4), Jasper (6) and Iliana came homeward to do the Salsa.
- In the top of the fifth, the Monarchs tallied a run to deadlock the proceeding 12-12. Alex (6) came home to do the Hootchy-Kootchy.
- Putting the pedal to the metal, the Crawfords scored four in the bottom of the sixth to take a 16-12 lead. Angus, Roland (12), Isaac (1) and Leo came home to do the Macarena.
- With 1-2-3 efficiency, Crawfords closer Angus (13) pitched a three up and three down top of the sixth to pick up the save and seal the deal on the victory.
