IN A MARATHON BARN BURNER, THE NITTY GRITTY BUCKEYES FEND OFF A FEROCIOUS LATE INNING RALLY BY THE PESKY EAGLES TO PREVAIL FOR THE BANTAM DIVISION SEMI-FINAL ELIMINATION PLAYOFF GAME VICTORY AT DOMINICO FIELD AT CHRISTIE PITS
Beneath an embroidered duvet of cold and overcast skies, the Buckeyes prevailed 16-14 over the Eagles in a loooooong six innings of Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball Tournament Bantam Division Semi-Final elimination playoff game action this afternoon at Dominico Field at Christie Pits.
The three hour proceeding was a barn burning affair where both teams combined for a total of thirty-four walks over the course of six frames. In the end, the Buckeyes fended off a frenetic late comeback bid by the Eagles to hang on for the wafer thin victory.
Utilizing a combination of steady pitching and defence, plus a taking tiger mountain by strategy offensive philosophy, the gritty Buckeyes slowly built a 16-6 advantage through 4 ½ innings of play.
However, the pesky Eagles refused to surrender and go quietly into the night. After scoring a pair in the bottom of the fifth to trim the shortfall to eight, the Eagles offence soared to life in the bottom of the sixth as they rallied with six dramatic runs to slice the gap to 16-14.
With two outs and an Eagles baserunner on third, Buckeyes closer Will (12) uncorked a wild pitch to the backstop. As Andy (10) bolted homeward in a bid to make it a one run affair, Buckeyes catcher Thomas (16) retrieved the ball and threw a bullet to Will, who slapped the tag on Andy to ring up the third out and seal the deal on the Buckeyes win.
The Buckeyes will face the Wolves in the 2018 Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball Bantam Division Championship Game on Tuesday (September 11) evening at Dominico Field at Christie Pits at 6:00 p.m.
