IN A SUNNY SUNDAY AFFAIR, THE MAJORS PREVAIL OVER THE MINORS AT CHRISTIE PITS TO EARN THEIR SIXTH EBA PEEWEE SELECT LOOP VICTORY
Beneath an unrelenting gaze of extremely warm blue summer skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Major Peewee Selects defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Minor Peewee Selects 18-2 in three innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Select Loop action this afternoon at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
Despite the lopsided final result of the proceeding, the birds of the same feather TP affair was a fun and entertaining contest between two talented teams.
In the top portion of the first frame, the Majors sent eleven batters to the dish as they staked themselves to an early 5-0 lead. Following a leadoff single and a pair of stolen bases by Julia (18) that advanced her to third, Zach (24) stroked a RBI single to bring Julia home with the opening run of the game.
After Zach swiped second base, Dash (27) delivered a RBI double to bring him home. Following a steal of third by Dash, Jakub (11) connected for a RBI single to bring him home to crow.
Following a single by Nathan (9) that put two ducklings on the pond, Will (21) delivered a clutch two out two RBI single that allowed Jakub and Nathan to motor homeward.
TP Minor starter Markus (29) chalked up a pair of strikeouts and a groundout in the first inning to quell the TP Major insurgency.
With 1-2-3 efficiency, TP Major starter Zach (24) tallied two strikeouts and a pop out in the bottom of the first to keep the TP Minors off the scoring ledger.
The TP Majors sent a Barry Manilow Copacabana conga line procession of fifteen batters to the plate in the top of the second to add another nine runs to their total as they widened their advantage to 14-0. After stroking a leadoff single, Dash swiped his way around the horn to third base. Nathan followed with a one out RBI double that brought Dash home.
Following Nathan’s steal of third, Josh (42) delivered a RBI single to bring him home to roost. After Simon S.J. (3) garnered a walk that put two mallards on the lake, Will followed with a RBI single to plate Josh.
With runners at third and second, Aaron (7) delivered a RBI double that allowed Simon S.J. to score. Julia followed with a RBI single that brought Will homeward.
After a single by Zach that loaded the bases, Dash reached base on a hit by pitch that forced Aaron home from third. With the bases still juiced to the gills, Jakub stroked a RBI single that brought Julia home.
With two outs and the bases still loaded, Josh delivered a RBI single to bring Zach home. Simon S.J. followed with a bases loaded RBI walk that allowed Dash to shimmy homeward.
TP Minor reliever Jack (4) entered the fray with one out in the second inning to tally a strikeout and lineout to subdue the TP Majors rebellion.
Refusing to accept their circumstance, the TP Minors gamely clawed back with a run in bottom half of the second to trim the margin to 14-1. Following a two out walk by Guillermo (14), a single by Raywat (11), and a walk by Goran (43) that loaded the bases, Finn (99) delivered a clutch RBI single to bring Guillermo home with the TP Minors first run.
The TP Minors rally bid was short circuited when a baserunner was caught stealing home.
TP Major starter Zach rung up two strikeouts in the second to vanquish the TP Minor uprising.
In the top portion of the third, the TP Majors tacked on four insurance runs to stretch their lead to 18-1. After a leadoff single by Aaron and a walk by Julia that put two capybaras on the diamond, Zach stroked a RBI single that brought Aaron home.
After Dash was hit by pitch to load the bases, Jakub delivered a RBI single that brought Julia homeward. With the bases juiced to the max, Nathan followed with a RBI single to plate Zach.
With the bases still loaded, Josh hit into a 9-3 groundout that allowed Dash to rumble home with a run.
Shaken, but not stirred, TP Minor reliever Raywat (11) rang up a pair of groundouts and a strikeout in the third frame to vanquish the TP Majors civil disobedience.
Donning their rally caps, the TP Minors continued to battle in the bottom of the third as they rallied with a run to close the gap to 14-2. After a leadoff walk by Jack, a single by Guillermo, and a walk by Raywat loaded the bases, Goran drew a bases loaded RBI walk that brought Jack home with the peameal bacon.
Nonplussed, TP Major starter Zach dug deep into his reserve tank to chalk up a lineout, strikeout and groundout to bring the curtain down on the proceedings.
The TP Major Peewee Selects (6-1) resume action on the EBA Select circuit on Wednesday (June 26) night when they host the Annette A’s at Christie Pits Diamond 2 at 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the TP Minor Peewee Selects (0-6) will travel to Connorvale Park on Wednesday evening to battle the Royal York Girls at 6:00 p.m.
