COMMUNITY BASEBALL > After a late afternoon rainstorm left a deluge of rain at Christie Pits, TP coaches and fans pitched in to help rake and squeegee the field at Christie Pits Diamond 3 in order for the TP Minor Peewee Select-Royal York White EBA Mosquito Select game to be played. Beneath a warm ceiling of blue and cloudy skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Minor Peewee Selects defeated the Royal York White 5-3 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Peewee Select Loop action this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 3.

A brief late afternoon rainstorm descended upon Christie Pits forcing the cancellation of all scheduled House League baseball games on Wednesday evening due to wet field conditions. However, this act of Mother Nature did not deter the determination of the TP Minor Peewee Selects from getting their scheduled game in versus Royal York.

With a generous helping hand from coaches and fans, the Minor Peewee Selects were able to use a combination of rakes, squeegees, brooms, grit and muscle to dry out the playing surface at Christie Pits Diamond 3 and get their game in. Kudos to everyone who pitched in!

Here are a few highlights from the proceeding:

  • Down 3-1, TP refused to accept their circumstance as they donned their rally caps in the bottom of the fourth inning and staged a miraculous come from behind five run rally to usurp the Cardinals.
  • During the TP comeback, Saeed (9) and Niko (2) utilized their Grand Theft skills and brazenly stole home to score a pair of dramatic runs.
  • TP pitchers Devon (16), Liam (17), Dylan and Milo combined to limit the Royal York offence to only two runs over the course of four frames.
  • Raywat (11) was named TP’s MVP of the game for a pair of sweet Gold Glove double plays that stymied the Cardinals attack. In the first inning, Raywat caught an eight mile high pop up to tally the first out. Noticing that the Royal York baserunner had wandered afar, he hustled over and stepped on second base to chalk up the unassisted double play. Later in the fourth frame, Raywat made a nice catch on a hard hit fly ball to centre field to ring up the first out. He then made a rocket throw to second base to erase a wayfaring Cardinals baserunner and complete a pretty 8-4 double play.

The TP Minor Peewee Selects (2-9) continue their homestand at Christie Pits Diamond 2 next Wednesday (July 24) when they host the Bloordale Bombers at 7:30 p.m.
