TAKING FLIGHT, THE CARDINALS PREVAIL OVER TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS FOR THE EBA 13U SELECT LOOP VICTORY AT CHRISTIE PITS
Beneath a warm layer of cloudy and overcast skies, the Royal York White defeated the Toronto Playgrounds 13U Blue Selects 18-0 in three innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) 13U Select Loop action tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
In a lopsided proceeding, Royal York was firing on all cylinders from the first pitch to the final out. When the dust had finally settled, the Cardinals were fully deserving of their dominating victory. In a nutshell, it just wasn’t TP’s night.
Royal York White sent a conga line procession of eighteen batters to the plate in the top half of the first as they parlayed a Mandarin Buffet serving of seven hits, six walks and two hit batsmen into a tsunami 12-0 lead.
Following a one out double by Ava (4) and a single by Victoria (12) that put two Cardinals in the nest, Alyssa (9) delivered a two RBI hit that allowed Ava and Victoria to fly home with the opening runs of the game.
After Alyssa had advanced to third base on a stolen base and a TP error, Ava M. (77) stroked a RBI single to bring Alyssa home with a run.
Following back to back walks by Eden (35) and Veronica (27) that loaded the bases, a subsequent TP wild pitch allowed Ava M. to scoot home with another Royal York White run.
With two aboard, Siena S. (8) followed with a RBI single that brought Eden home to roost.
After a single by Sarah (2) that loaded the bases, Loenne (13) stroked a RBI hit that allowed Veronica to hustle home with a run.
With the bases still juiced to the gills, Ellie (24) reached base on a hit by pitch that brought Siena S. home with the Cards seventh run.
Exercising patience at the dish, Siena V. (99) and Samantha (11) followed with back to back bases loaded RBI walks that allowed Sarah and Loenne to come homeward with another pair of Audubon Society ornithological runs.
With two outs and the bases still loaded to the max, Victoria stepped into the batter’s box and crunched a grace under pressure bases clearing three RBI triple that brought Ellie, Siena V. and Samantha home to the nest.
With Rome burning to the ground, TP reliever Lucas (24) entered the fray in the first inning to tally a pair of strikeouts to subdue the Cardinals insurrection.
With 1-2-3 efficiency, Royal York White starter Victoria (12) chalked up two strikeouts and a pop out in the bottom of the first to keep TP off the scoring ledger.
The Cardinals added another run to their treasure trove in the top of the second to stretch their upper hand to 13-0.
Following a pair of singles by Veronica and Siena S. to lead off the inning, Ellie garnered a one out walk to load the bases. With two outs, Samantha stroked a clutch RBI hit that allowed Veronica to come home with a run.
After TP reliever Lucas exited with two strikeouts and the bases loaded, TP 13U Blue reliever Nathan K. (2) came in from the bullpen to tally a pop out back to the mound to put a kibosh on the Royal York White rebellion.
Taking no prisoners, Royal York White starter Victoria rang up three electrifying strikeouts in a row to keep TP off the scoresheet in the bottom portion of the second.
With the pedal to the metal, the Cardinals added five insurance runs to their booty in the top of the third to extend their plurality to 18-0.
After back to back one out singles by Alyssa and Ava M., Eden drew a walk to load the bases. Veronica followed with a two RBI hit that brought Alyssa and Ava M. homeward with a pair of runs.
A subsequent TP error would move Veronica over to third base and allow Eden to come home with another Royal York run.
Following a walk by Siena S. that put two swans on the lake, Loenne stroked a RBI hit to bring Veronica home with run.
After a walk by Ellie that loaded the bases, Samantha connected for a RBI single that allowed Siena S. to zoom home with yet another White Cardinals run.
With two outs and the bases loaded, Dante (10) entered the proceedings to impel a groundout which ended the Royal York uprising in the third frame.
Toronto Playgrounds donned their rally caps in the bottom of the third as they made one last charge to overtake the Cardinals.
However, Royal York White closer Veronica would tally a pair of groundouts and a strikeout to terminate TP’s comeback dreams and seal the deal on the Cardinals commanding victory.
