FIRING ON ALL PISTONS, THE CARDINALS PREVAIL OVER TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS FOR THE EBA 9U SELECT LOOP VICTORY AT CHRISTIE PITS
Under a warm duvet of sunny and hazy skies, the Royal York 9U White defeated the Toronto Playgrounds 9U Selects 24-0 in four innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) 9U Select Loop action this afternoon at Christie Pits Diamond 3.
In a lopsided proceeding, Royal York had the pedal on the metal from the first pitch to the final out. When the dust had finally settled, the Cardinals were fully deserving of their dominating victory. In a nutshell, it simply wasn’t TP’s day on the field of play.
In the top half of the first, Royal York White jumped out to an early 7-0 advantage.
After back to back singles by Evan (19) and Daylen (4) to lead off the inning, Will (1) hit into a fielder’s choice that erased Daylen at second and advanced Evan to third. On the play, TP second baseman Adam (11) vacuumed up Will’s grounder for a nice putout at second.
With runners on the corners, Matthew C. (97) delivered a one out two RBI triple that allowed Evan and Will to come home with the opening runs of the game.
On the next play, TP third baseman Avi (22) battled the glare of the afternoon sun to make a nice catch on Miles (2) pop fly for the second out.
With two away and a runner on third, Matthew W. (3) stroked a clutch RBI hit to bring Matthew C. home with a run.
Following a single by Kieran (27) that put two ducklings on the pond, Theo (22) muscled a two RBI single that allowed Matthhew W. and Kieran to motor homeward with two more Cardinals runs.
After a single by Ivan (46) that put two runners on base, Connor (13) capped off the inning with a two RBI triple that brought Theo and Ivan home with two runs.
Toronto Playgrounds threatened in the bottom of the first after Ellis (44) and Elliot (72) stroked respective singles that put two aboard. However, TP was unable to capitalize on its opportunity as the rally bid fizzled.
Taking the bull by the horns, Royal York White unleashed a seven run fusillade in the top of the second that extended their lead to 14-0.
After a one out triple by Evan, Daylen delivered Evan home with a RBI single.
Following consecutive singles by Will and Matthew C, that loaded the bases, Matthew W. delivered a clutch two out two RBI hit that allowed Daylen and Will to come home to roost with a pair of runs.
With two runners on base, Kieran muscled a RBI double that moved Matthew W. to third and brought Matthew C home with another Cardinals run.
Theo and Ivan followed suit with respective RBI singles that allowed Matthew W. and and Kieran to hustle home with a pair of runs.
For the icing on the cake, Connor stroked a RBI single that brought Theo home with yet another run for the White Cardinals.
In the bottom of the second, TP batter Cordell (99) reached base with a solid single. However, TP was unable to take advantage of the opportunity to build any momentum.
With tsunami like ferocity, Royal York White unfurled a blistering seven run assault in the top portion of the third as they expanded their lead to 21-0.
After a one out triple by Evan, Daylen stroked a one out RBI hit that allowed Evan to come home with a run.
With a runner on base, Will hit a RBI single that brought Daylen home with another run.
Following a single by Matthew C. that put two Cardinals on the bird bath, Miles delivered a two RBI hit that cleared the bases and allowed Will and Matthew C. to fly home to the nest with a pair of runs.
After a single by Matthew W. that put a runner on base, Kieran stroked a RBI hit to bring Miles home with a run.
Following a single by Theo that put two aboard, Ivan delivered a pièce de résistance two RBI hit that allowed Matthew W. and Kieran to come home with another pair of ornithological runs that were certified by the National Audubon Society.
In the bottom of the third, Toronto Playgrounds threatened after Adrian (4), Cal (3) and Ben (8) hit consecutive singles to load the bases.
With a grand opportunity knocking on the door, TP was unable to capitalize as they left the bases loaded.
Royal York White added a three spot to their treasure trove in the top of the fourth to increase their lead to 24-0.
After a leadoff single by Connor, Shaymar (20) muscled a RBI double that put two runners on base. Daylen followed with a one out RBI hit to bring Connor home.
With two outs and runners on the corners, Matthew C. stroked a clutch RBI single to bring Shaymar home with a run.
With two aboard, Miles delivered a RBI hit that allowed Daylen to come home with the Cardinals final run.
The TP 9U Selects turned in three defensive gems in the fourth inning to limit the high flying Royal York White offence to only three runs.
With no outs and two runners on base, TP centre fielder Avi (22) went full speed like a gazelle to make a spectacular fly ball catch off the bat of Evan to ring up the first out.
TP first baseman Cal followed suit when he vacuumed up a sharp cheddar cheese grounder off the bat of Will to tally the second out of the inning.
Then TP second baseman Cole (23) battled the sun to make a nice overhead catch off the bat of Matthew W. to chalk up the third out.
Toronto Playgrounds donned their rally caps in the bottom of the fourth as they made one last bid to stay alive.
However, it was not to be, as TP went down 1-2-3.
