Beneath a checkered ceiling of cloudy and sunny skies, the York 18U Riverdogs prevailed 18-1 over the Toronto Playgrounds 18U Selects in a seven inning Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) 18U Select Tournament Championship Game this afternoon at Centennial Park.
Despite falling short of their ultimate goal at the EBA tourney, the TP 18U Selects were rewarded with a well deserved invitation to the 2023 Baseball Ontario (OBA) 18U Select Provincial Championship Tournament for finishing as the ‘finalist’ at the EBA tournament.
The TP 18U Selects journey at the EBA tourney began with a take no prisoners 7-2 round robin game victory over the Bloordale 18U Bombers on Friday night.
In a nitty gritty affair, TP 18U prevailed 6-3 over the Martingrove 18U White Sox on Saturday night to earn their second round robin game win. With their victory against the White Sox, TP 18U earned a bye into the EBA 18U Select Tournament championship round.
In a midday contest played earlier today, the York 18U Riverdogs topped the TP 18U Selects 8-2 in their opening EBA 18U Select championship playoff game at Centennial Park. Under the double knockout rules of the tourney, another playoff game was triggered, where York ultimately prevailed over TP for the 2023 EBA 18U Select Championship.
On behalf of our entire baseball community, the Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association (TPBA) wishes to extend its congratulations to the coaches for their time and patience in guiding the talented players of the TP 18U Select Team to their finalist showing at the 2023 EBA 18U Select Championship Tournament.
The TPBA also wishes to commend all the TP 18U Select coaches, players, parents and family members for representing the core values of Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond at the EBA 18U Select Tourney and during the course of the 2023 season.
