Beneath a genteel blanket of sunny and cloudy midsummer skies, the Toronto Playgrounds 11U ‘A’ Rep defeated the North Toronto 11U ‘A’ 11-1 in a six inning 2023 Toronto Baseball Association (TBA) 11U ‘A’ Tournament Championship Game tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
With their championship victory over North York, TP 11U ‘A’ Rep were duly rewarded with an invitation by the TBA to be their representative at the 2023 Baseball Ontario (OBA) 11U ‘A’ Provincial Championship Tournament.
Here’s are some highlights from the championship proceedings:
- In a stellar performance, TP 11U ‘A’ starting pitcher Julian Manaois threw five electrifying innings against North York, where he allowed only one run, three hits and a walk, while striking out ten batters.
- TP 11U ‘A’ centre fielder Chase Millet led the TP attack with two doubles and a moonshot two run home run blast in the top of the sixth inning that sealed the deal on TP’s championship victory over North York.
- Toronto Playgrounds four run surge in the sixth frame was sparked by a two run double by Hank Harden.
- TP 11U ‘A’ closer Hank Harden entered the fray in the bottom half of the sixth frame and used only eight pitches to seal the deal on TP’s TBA championship game win.
TP 11U ‘A’ Rep ran the table at the TBA tournament as they went undefeated with a pristine 3-0 record at the “double-loss-knockout” playoff tournament.
Firing on all cylinders, Toronto Playgrounds began its journey at the TBA tourney on Saturday morning with a dominating 18-1 win over North Toronto 11U ‘A’ to earn their first TBA playoff game victory.
In a rough and tumble affair, TP 11U ‘A’ Rep prevailed 7-3 over the Royal York 11U ‘A’ Cardinals in a Saturday afternoon contest to tally their second TBA playoff win. With an unblemished 2-0 record, TP 11U ‘A’ punched their ticket into the TBA 11U ‘A’ tournament championship round, with a rematch against North York for all the marbles.
During a fun and rewarding 2023 TBA regular season campaign, the Toronto Playgrounds 11U ‘A’ Rep finished with a not too shabby 17-2 record. TP 11U ‘A’ had a 14-3 record in tournament play during the 2023 campaign (one tournament win; two runner up finishes; and a semi-final placement).
On behalf of our entire baseball community, the Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association (TPBA) wishes to extend their congratulations to Head Coach Marco Bianchi; Assistant Coaches Marty Harden; Jordan Pettle and Dylan Trowbridge; and the players of the TP 11U ‘A’ Rep Team for their hard work and dedication in achieving championship glory at the 2023 TBA 11U ‘A’ Rep Tournament.
