Partaking in their first ever Provincial tourney, the Toronto Playgrounds 15U ‘AA’ Rep had a fun and rewarding experience at the 2023 Baseball Ontario (OBA) 15U ‘AA” Rep Provincial Tournament in Kemptville during the Labour Day weekend.
In an exclusive interview with the TPBA Paparazzi, TP 15U ‘AA’ Rep Head Coach Zilcosky was effusive in his comments regarding his team’s performance at the OBA Rep Provincial tourney:
“This group had never been to the provincials before, but came filled with grit and determination, and knocked off two of the pre-tournament favourites: Caledon and Lasalle. We ended up finishing fifth in the province. A great accomplishment!”
In their opening round robin game at the OBA 15U ‘AA’ Rep tourney on Friday morning, the Seaway 15U Surge upended TP 15U ‘AA’ Rep 5-3 in a 6½ inning affair at the Kemptville South Gower 3 Diamond.
In a do or die tooth and nail battle on Friday afternoon, Toronto Playgrounds rebounded with a nip and tuck seven inning 8-5 win over the Caledon 15U Nationals at South Gower 3 to earn their first round robin victory and stay alive at the Provincials.
Taking no prisoners, TP 15U ‘AA’ Rep defeated the Lasalle 15U Titans 14-4 in a midday five inning round robin game on Saturday at South Gower 3 to collect its second round robin victory at the OBA Rep tournament.
On Saturday afternoon, the Waterloo 15U Tigers prevailed 13-7 over TP 15U ‘AA’ Rep in a seven inning round robin game at South Gower 3. With their second loss, TP was eliminated from further play at the OBA 15U ‘AA’ Rep Provincial Tournament.
The Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association (TPBA) wishes to commend Head Coach John Zilcosky; Assistant coaches Eugene Winer, Neil Gregson and Glen Mitchell; Team Manager Dora Yeoh; and the talented players of the TP 15U ‘AA’ Rep Team for their fifth place showing at the 2023 OBA 15U ‘AA’ Rep Tournament.
