IN A WILD WEST CHAMPIONSHIP SHOOTOUT, TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS PREVAIL OVER THE MAJORS AT OAKES PARK IN NIAGARA FALLS
Beneath a blanket of overcast and rainy skies, the Toronto Playgrounds 16U ‘AA’ prevailed 20-14 over the Mississauga Majors to win the 2024 Cole Doneff Memorial 16U Rep Tournament Championship Game this afternoon at Oakes Park Diamond 1 in Niagara Falls.
TP 16U ‘AA’ began its journey at the tourney on Friday night with a slender 3-1 win over the WOBA Bulls to earn its first round robin victory.
In a high noon contest on Saturday, TP 16U ‘AA’ were upended 8-2 by the Oakville A’s in their second game round robin game at the tourney.
With true grit, TP 16U ‘AA’ bounced back on Saturday evening with an 11-1 victory over Leaside in their third round robin game.
After finishing the round robin portion of the tournament with a 2-1 record, Toronto Playgrounds earned a berth in Sunday’s semi-final elimination portion of the Cole Doneff tourney.
Early this morning, TP 16U ‘AA’ took care of business as they defeated the Guelph Royals 6-1 in a semi-final elimination game at Oakes Park.
With their victory over the Royals, TP 16U ‘AA’ punched their ticket into the championship round with a showdown for all the marbles against the Mississauga Majors.
The Toronto Playgrounds Baseball Association (TPBA) wishes to congratulate Head Coaches Tim Lawrence and Aidan McClory; and the players of the TP 16U ‘AA’ Team for their championship finish at the 2024 Cole Doneff Memorial Tournament.
The TPBA also wishes to commend all the TP 16U ‘AA’ coaches, players, parents and family members for representing the core values of TPBA program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond at the weekend Cole Doneff Memorial tourney.
