Below a ceiling of sunny and humid skies, the Rays trumped the Lizzies 12-10 in a four inning Mosquito Division shootout this evening at the Bickford Park South Diamond.

It was an entertaining and high scoring game where walks dominated the proceedings as both teams combined for a grand total of twenty-six walks during the hour and forty minute affair.

In the end, the devilish Rays eked out a victory over the Go Go Lizzies by taking advantage of the opportunities presented to them and making the most out the ten walks and seven hits they generated against their opponent.

Feasting upon an offering of four walks and a pair of hits, the hungry Rays jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Respective one out RBI walks with the bases loaded by Evan (9), Kismet (12) and Tiger (4) would allow Javert (14), Devon (7) and Dante (13) to come homeward bound. A RBI single by Nicolas (5) would score Evan.

Lizzies starter Thomas (13) struck out one Rays batter during the inning.

Rays starter Dante (13) would strike out a pair of Lizzies in the bottom of the first to keep them off the scoring ledger.

In grand fashion, the Rays added four more runs in the top of the second to widen their advantage to 8-0. With two outs, the Rays proceeded to load the bases as Ethan (15) singled, P.J. (2) was hit by pitch, and Lucas (8) singled to put three ducks on the pond.

Lizzies reliever Sam (12) tossed a scoreless fourth against the Rays where he allowed a walk and struck out two.

Next, Javert stepped up to the plate and powered a grace under pressure inside the park home run shot to the deep dish pizza nether regions of right field that cleared the bases and more. The majestic 4 RBI shot brought the Rays players and fans to their feet in jubilant celebration.

Lizzies reliever Luca P.Z. (1) mowed down one Ray during the frame.

Refusing to surrender, the Lizzies answered the clarion call and replied with four in the bottom of the second to trim the deficit to four. The Lizzies would pounce upon a scrumptious Rays buffet offering of six walks and a hit batsman to plate their first runs of the game.

Respective RBI walks from Dajuan (7) and Shamus (9) would allow Felix (3) and Cameron (6) to come home to roost. A Rays error with the bases juiced would allow Jamie (15) to motor home with the third run. Dajuan would mosey home with the final run of the inning after Luca P.Z. was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.

However, the Rays would answer back with four insurance runs in the top of the third to stretch their lead to 12-4. Exercising patience at the dish, the devilish Rays chowed down on a Lizzies appetizer menu of five walks, a single and a hit batsman to add to their tally.

Back to back one out RBI walks with the bases loaded from Kismet and Tiger would allow Devon and Sadie (1) to saunter homeward bound. Nicolas would stroke a bases juiced RBI single to score Dante. With three ducks on the pond, Kismet would shimmy home after Lucky (10) was hit by pitch.

Lizzies reliever Julian (5) would fan one Ray during the inning.

With their backs to the wall, the Lizzies gamely struck back with four in the bottom of the third to trim the margin to 12-8. Gobbling down upon a succulent Rays offering of five walks, a single and a hit batsman, the Go Go Lizzies cut the deficit to four runs once again.

Consecutive one out RBI walks by Julian, Liam (11), Felix and Cameron with the bases loaded would allow Sebastian (2), Luca C. (14), Sam (12) and Julian to come homeward bound.

Lizzies southpaw reliever Sam (12) would strike out two in the top of the fourth to keep the Rays off the scoreboard and in the aquarium.

In the bottom of the fourth, the never say die Lizzies rallied for a pair to trim the deficit to two. After singling to lead off the frame, Jamie would swipe two bases + home in grand theft fashion to pull his team to within 12-9.

Next, after Dajuan had walked and stolen second, he made a brazen attempt to steal third. However, Rays catcher Ethan made a laser throw to third baseman Lucas, who adroitly applied the tag on the sliding Dajuan to record the first out of the inning.

Still stubbornly refusing to accept their fate, the Lizzies gamely proceeded to load the bases as the Rays issued a meal ticket of three more walks to throw more kerosene on the fire. Lucas C. would draw a bases juiced RBI walk to plate Shamus and trim the margin to 12-10.

Shaken, but not stirred, Rays lefty closer Nicholas (5) would find the groove and strike out one and induce a fielder’s choice to extinguish the Lizzies bold rally attempt and seal the deal on a hard fought victory.
