TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS DUG THEMSELVES INTO A HOLE AGAINST THE WHITE SOX AT RICHVIEW PARK THAT THEY COULD NOT EXTRICATE THEMSELVES FROM
Game Report composed with file from Rob Ball
Beneath warm Spring skies this afternoon at Richview Park, the Martingrove (2) White Sox defeated our TP Major Peewee Selects 13-0 in four innings of EBA West Select Loop action.
In contrast to the lovely weather prevalent at Carmen Bush, Toronto Playgrounds played a game to forget. A lack of team focus resulted in a series of errors, and subsequent walks allowed Martingrove to build a substantial advantage on the scoreboard. In the end, TP dug themselves into a hole that was too deep to extricate themselves from.
Despite the best efforts of TP pitchers John (27) and Simon (5) (who combined for a three hitter with four strikeouts each), the offensive bats of the Major Peewees went waywardly silent during the proceedings. And when TP did get any runners on base, they committed a couple of base running errors to take themselves out of potential big inning.
In a postgame media interview, TP Major Peewee Select Head Coach Rob Ball remained positive despite the final result:
“This team can definitely compete with Martingrove. The players just have to fully commit mentally and physically to the game. It’s a good thing that it’s a quick turnaround with a game against York on Wednesday, so Sunday will all be forgotten.”
The Major Peewee Selects (1-2-1) play their next game against York on Wednesday, June 12 at Smythe Park at 6:15 p.m.
