IN A LOW SCORING NAILBITER, THE BUCCANEERS EKE OUT A VICTORY OVER THE MIGHTY GIANTS TO WIN THEIR FIRST ROUND ROBIN GAME OF THE TOURNAMENT
Beneath sunny skies this evening at Christie Pits Diamond 2, the Pirates edged the Giants 2-1 in a 3 ½ inning Mosquito Division round robin tournament nailbiter.
In an exciting contest between two talented squads, runs came at a premium in a game where pitching from both teams dominated the proceedings from first pitch to last out. In fact, a combined total of eighteen strikeouts were recorded by the Giants and Pirates.
All the offensive action happened in the first. The Giants (0-2) took an early 1-0 lead in the top half of the inning. With the bases loaded, Alex (13) blazed home from third on a Bucs error to score the first run of the game.
In the bottom of the first, the Pirates (1-1) answered with a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead. With the bases loaded, Sterling (15) drew a RBI walk to bring Owen (11) home with the tying run. With two outs, Hayden (2) delivered a clutch RBI single to bring home Andrew (10) with the go ahead (and eventual winning) run.
And that’s all folks in a whale of game where stellar pitching reigned supreme.
Kudos to Giants pitchers Alex (13), Harris (15) and Emmett (11), and Pirates pitchers Andrew (10), Jackson (3) and Adam (14).
