TAKING NO PRISONERS, THE MIGHTY GIANTS PLUNDER THE BUCCANEERS TO TAKE THE TREASURE OF SWEET VICTORY AT CHRISTIE PITS
Game Post composed with file from Paul BagnellBeneath the lights on a hot and humid summer’s night, the Giants defeated the Pirates 13-6 in four innings of Peewee Division action tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 2.
Here is a Giants summary of the proceedings:
- The Giants topped the Pirates 13-6 in a well-played, four inning matchup under the lights of Christie Pits Diamond 3 on Monday evening.
- The Giants got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning, with their first four batters reaching base, and ultimately coming home to score. RBIs went to Curtis (2), who singled, and Jasper (13), Aidan (10) and Jonah (15).
- In the bottom of the first, Giants starter Will (13) took the mound and hurled two strikeouts. However, the Pirates tied it up 4-4.
- Some strong play by the Pirates in the top of the second held the Giants to only one run (Charlie, a summer callup and brother of Will, stole home). But there were highlights for the Giants, including a singles for Emilie (8), Will and Nigel (14).
- In the bottom of the second, Giants reliever Curtis pitched his second inning of the season. Curtis threw hard, and struck out two on his way to a two-run inning for the Pirates. The score was 6-5 Pirates at the end of two.
- A Giants defensive highlight in the second was Jasper, Sam (11) and Curtis combining to trap a Pirates baserunner in a rundown between third base and home. Jasper, at third, took a strong throw from Giants catcher Sam, and fired it back to Sam, who made the tag.
- The Giants offence came back to life in the top of the third, with the squad scoring four runs in just six at bats to take a 9-6 lead. Emilie smacked her second-consecutive single of the evening to bring home the fourth run.
- Giants reliever Nigel (14) pitched a scoreless the bottom of the third as he shut the Pirates down by notching three strikeouts while facing just five batters to preserve the three run lead.
- In the top of the fourth, the Giants scored four again to widen their lead to 13-6. Curtis, Nigel and Charlie all hit singles.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Will slammed the door shut from the pitchers mound. Only four Pirates batters made it to the plate, with Will striking out three of them to seal the deal on a hard fought victory over the Bucs.
