ROCKIN’ AND ROLLIN’, THE ROCKIES PREVAIL OVER THE EXPOS AT BICKFORD PARK
Beneath a thick as pea soup ceiling of hot and humid skies, the Rockies prevailed 9-7 over the Expos in three innings of Peewee Division action this evening at the Bickford Park Diamond.
Despite the hot and sticky conditions, the proceeding was an entertaining affair played between two talented and well coached teams. With the dog days of summer coming to a close, both squads fielded sizable lineups for the game with the Rockies having twelve players and the Expos having eleven.
Utilizing four hits and a pair of walks, the Rockies jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first. After Ted (12) walked and Thomas (9) singled to lead off the inning and put two runners on base, Leandro (5) connected on a 2 RBI double that cleared the bases.
After Isaac (13) drew a one out walk and stole second, Alexander (14) stroked a RBI single to bring him home to roost. Adi (1) would follow with a RBI single that allowed Isaac to come home.
In a spirited effort, Expos starter Dean (14) struck out one in the top of the first.
The Expos replied with a run in the bottom of the first to trim the deficit to three. After singling and advancing to second on a Rockies error, leadoff hitter Olivia (6) stole third to put herself into scoring position. Cameron (15) hit a two out RBI single to bring Olivia home.
In a solid effort, Rockies starter Ted (12) would strike out one in the bottom of the first to subdue the Expos insurrection.
The Rockies would add three more to their tally in the top of the second to stretch their lead to 7-1. After Griff (11) garnered a lead off walk and swiped two bases, Tristen (15) followed with another walk that put two ducks on the pond. A wild pitch by the Expos would allow Griff to motor home and Tristen to shuffle to second.
Alden (7) would follow with a RBI single that plated Tristen. After a pair of errors allowed Alden to advance to third, he would blaze homeward on a wild pitch.
Finding the groove, Expos reliever Harris (12) would strike out the next three batters to extinguish the Rockies rebellion.
In the bottom of the second, the Expos rallied with four runs to slice the margin to 7-5. Hayden (11), Cooper (5) and Han (2) would draw walks to load the bases. A dropped third strike with two outs would allow Harris to reach first and permit Hayden to come home and keep the inning alive.
Exercising patience at the dish, Olivia, Avi (10) and Dean (14) would follow with consecutive RBI walks that allowed Cooper, Han and Harris to come homeward bound.
In a determined foray on the hill, Rockies reliever Adi (1) would strike out a pair in the bottom of the second.
The Rockies would answer with two insurance runs in the top of the third to widen their advantage to 9-5. After reaching base on a fielder’s choice, Leandro stole second. Matthew (12) followed with a one out RBI single that brought Leandro home to roost.
After Matthew swiped a pair of bases to reach third, Isaac delivered him home with a RBI single.
Expos reliever Harris would strike out two in the top of the third to quell the Rockies insurgency.
Refusing to surrender, the Expos gamely rallied with two in the bottom of the third to trim the margin to 9-7. After Cameron, Hayden and Cooper drew walks to load the bases, Juan (13) stroked an one out RBI single to plate Cameron.
With the bases still juiced to the gills, Hayden would blaze home from third on a wild pitch.
