Below a sombre blanket of warm skies, the Lizzies slayed the Pirates 9-6 in three innings of Peewee Division action tonight at Christie Pits Diamond 2.

Here is the Pirates Captain’s Log of the Pitched Battle:

  • It was a warm and pleasant evening, after a hot and humid day of anticipation for this battle between two Peewee Division heavyweights.
  • With no coaches in sight, the Pirates tied up two parents (Graham & Robert) and put them on the gang plank with the choice to “coach or swim”.
  • Pirates starter Aaron (6) pitched a strong first inning while allowing one run.
  • The Lizzies bats were strong this evening, and combined with some aggressive base running, overcame the pitching arsenal of Zenon (8) and Myles (7) in the second and third innings.
  • Refusing to wave the white flag, the Pirates made two strong comeback attempts with some strong hitting of their own, including a a long hit to left centre field by Elliot (12), who was held to a double due to some fine fielding by Lizzies defense in the second frame. Elliot had a Halcyon Day by going 2 for 3 at the plate.
  • The Bucs had the bases loaded with two out in the last inning. However, the Lizzies stuck a sock in the Pirates cannon to stifle the Buccaneers uprising and steal the win.
  • Each team gave up one run in the first. The Lizzies scored four in each of the next two innings. The Bucs scored two in the second and three in the third.
  • Francis (11) made three solid plays for outs at first base including a fantastic catch on a line drive.
