Game Summary composed with file from Bill Evans
Under a blue canopy of warm skies, our Toronto Playgrounds Major Peewee Selects finished round robin play this evening at the Pelham Minor Baseball Association Tournament in Fenwick, Ontario with a stellar 2-1 record to finish in first place in Pool A of the tourney.
As a result, TP has qualified for the semi-final elimination phase of the tournament. The TP Major Peewee Selects will play in an early morning semi-final game tomorrow (Sunday, June 12) at 9:00 a.m. against the Pelham Panthers. The winner will advance to the tourney’s championship game.
Toronto Playgrounds opened the Pelham tournament with a convincing 9-2 victory over the Milton Mets yesterday (Friday, June 10) evening at Centennial Park Diamond 1.
In a noon time game today, the TP Major Peewee Selects lost a 7-6 five inning heartbreaker to the Georgina Bulldogs at Centennial Park Diamond 3. Trailing 6-4, the pesky Bulldogs rallied for three in the bottom of the fifth to usurp TP.
However, TP regrouped with a flourish and capped off the round robin portion of the tourney this evening with an 15-4 blowout victory over the Waterdown Wolves at Centennial Park Diamond 3.
The TP offensive assault against the Wolves was powered by respective home runs from Jake (30), Nigel (20) and Piper (13).
TP starter Nigel (20) went the distance on the hill as he held the Waterdown batting order to just four runs and was named the game’s MVP.
Additional updates from the Pelham Tournament will be posted as it becomes available.
