TORONTO PLAYGROUNDS JOURNEY AT THE TOURNEY COMES TO AN END WITH A 22-4 LOSS TO THE BLOORDALE GREEN
Beneath a canopy of warm summer skies, the Bloordale (Green) Bombers defeated the Toronto Playgrounds Major Rookie Ball Selects 22-4 in 6 ½ innings of Etobicoke Baseball Association (EBA) Rookie Ball Select Tournament Championship Game action this afternoon at Neilson Park.
After opening the preliminary round of the tourney on Friday evening at Pelmo Park with a dominating 22-0 victory over the York Gold Riverdogs. TP carried its momentum into Saturday afternoon with a 16-6 win over the Royal York Cardinals, and an 11-7 victory over the Bloordale Green to advance to the playoff elimination round.
In the semi-final showdown contested this morning, TP prevailed over the Annette A’s 11-7 to punch a ticket into the championship final.
With the victory, unbeaten TP (4-0) advanced to a championship final showdown versus the Bloordale Green (3-1). Bloordale had to defeat TP twice in order to procure the championship prize. [Teams participating in this year’s EBA playoffs are operating under the double knockout formula, whereby a team with two losses would be eliminated from further contention in the tournament.]
Earlier this afternoon, Bloordale defeated TP 18-2 to force a winner take all playoff game for the championship title. In the final for all the marbles, the Bombers prevailed over TP to take home the prize.
Despite falling short in the championship round, the TP Major Rookie Ball Selects had an extremely fun and productive regular season on the EBA Select circuit with an 12-2 record.
In addition, the TP Major Rookie Ball Selects had rewarding tournament experiences competing against elite teams at the West Hill and Innisfil Tournaments during the course of the 2017 season.
The TP House League Baseball Committee wishes to thank TP Major Rookie Ball Select Head Coach John Zilcosky , Assistant Coaches Garth Nichols, Hersh Perlis, Eugene Winer, and General Manager Anaud Ganpaul, for their fortitude and patience in steering these talented Minor Mosquito Selects to the EBA Championship Final, and through the highs and lows of a fun and productive season.
The Committee also wishes to commend all the Major Rookie Ball Select players, coaches, parents, and family members for representing the core values of the Toronto Playgrounds House League Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond during the course of the 2017 season.
