Beneath a duvet of warm and humid midsummer skies, the Toronto Playgrounds Major Midget ‘A’ Rep Team edged Leaside 7-6 in seven inning nail biter this afternoon at Connorvale Park to win the 2018 Toronto Baseball Association (TBA) Midget Championship Game.
Trailing 6-4, TP staged a dramatic three run comeback rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to take home the TBA Midget championship in walk off fashion.
In a postgame interview, TP Major Midget ‘A’ Rep Head Coach Peter Roy was euphoric over his team’s performance during the weekend: “It was pretty sweet, especially since we had three of our pitchers injured or sick. The team really pulled together to overcome the odds. It was truly a team effort to win this one.”
The TP Baseball Committee wishes to congratulate TP Major Midget ‘A’ Rep Head Coach Peter Roy and Assistant Coaches Bill Balfe and Jeff Michaels for their fortitude and patience in steering these talented Major Midget ‘A’ Reps to championship glory at the TBA Midget Championship playoff tournament. The Committee also wishes to thank and congratulate Managers Donna Forster and Jon Stein for their contributions and hard work throughout the long 2018 season.
The Committee also wishes to commend all the Major Midget ‘A’ Rep players, coaches and parents for representing the core values of the Toronto Playgrounds Baseball program with honour, dignity and professionalism both on and off the diamond at the tournament and throughout the 2018 season.
As the TBA Midget champions, the TP Major Midget ‘A’ Rep Team will be the City of Toronto representative at the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) Provincial Finals during the Labour Day long weekend.
WAY TO GO, TP!
